Bourbon Sweet Tea
Mix it up Monday has become a day we look forward to every week. It is a joy for us to share recipes for the cocktails we’ve created that we think you’ll enjoy as much as we do. This week, we took some risks and experimented with tea to make our Bourbon Sweet Tea.
I have to be honest, sweet tea was a foreign concept for a large portion of my life. Don’t get me wrong, iced tea was something I recall ordering from time to time when I went out to eat. I often still order tea when I eat out for lunch. Ordering tea involved adding lemon and some sweetener to give it the taste I was looking for. However, as many of you are already aware, sugar doesn’t dissolve quickly in cold tea.
On my first trip to Florida as an adult, I was introduced to the concept of sweet tea. I went into a restaurant and was given the option to choose unsweet or sweet tea. My mind was blown! I couldn’t believe someone had thought of making tea with the sugar already added. Before that, the fanciest tea we made was sun tea where we put a container of water with lots of Lipton tea bags in the sun for a few hours to make tea.
For our Bourbon Sweet Tea, we combined bourbon with tea and sweetened it with Agave in the Raw. We also added lemon and mint, which are our favorite additions to tea. If you don’t have Agave in the Raw, you could substitute simple syrup. However, the Agave in the Raw gives the tea a sweetness without being overly sweet. For the bourbon, we used Old Tub as our base spirit. The oak flavor of the Old Tub complemented the tea in this cocktail. You can find our review of Old Tub here.
Although my knowledge about tea has improved over the years, there is still something delicious about a simple iced tea. Our Bourbon Sweet Tea strikes the right balance of tea flavor while creating an easy-sipping cocktail to enjoy on those warm summer days.
Happy Exploring!
