Dragon Water cocktail with mint garnish.
Dragon Water cocktail with mint garnish.

When I met Summer, I really didn’t care for whiskey. I drank scotch with my grandfather and I would have an occasional Jack and Coke at a bar. But whiskey wasn’t my jam. I was all about gin and tequila (still am, by the way). So in the process of mixing up whiskey cocktails, I think about how our concoctions might pair with other spirits. And with that interdisciplinary lens, Dragon Water emerged.

Dragon Water expands the use of our dragon fruit simple syrup. If you go through the trouble of making it, you might as well maximize your usage. A mason jar filled with bright pink dragon fruit simple syrup was my muse, a neglected bottle of New Amsterdam was my vehicle. With a slap of mint, this cocktail goes down just like its namesake intends: like water.

Dragon Water is three ingredients. Gin, dragon fruit simple syrup, and mint. Pre-mix for summertime barbeques or create a mixing station at your house for people to determine their own ratios. The aromatic properties of gin mixed with the herbal/sweet sensation of the dragon fruit simple syrup enhances the flavor of both.

If you follow our page, but whiskey isn’t for you, give Dragon Water a try for a new perspective. You can find the recipe for the dragon fruit simple syrup under the write-up for our Spicy Dragon Fruit Old Fashioned here.
