Our 5-year anniversary just passed a couple of weeks ago. The theme for a 5-year anniversary present is wood. The gift I received was a cocktail smoker kit. I finally got a chance to try it out this past week. The first cocktail we tried was this Maple Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned.
It helped that the day we made this cocktail the temperature stayed in the 50s and there was on-and-off rain. The Maple Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned seemed like the right vibe for one of the first days that really felt like fall was in the air.
For our Maple Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned, we used maple syrup instead of simple syrup and a few dashes of bitters. We added Buffalo Trace Bourbon as our base. The hints of mint from the Buffalo Trace brought out the flavor from the trace of smoke added by the cocktail smoker. You can check out our full review of Buffalo Trace here.
You will need a cocktail smoker for this recipe. They can be purchased from a variety of places. You can find them on Instagram or on Amazon. The good news is due to the rise in popularity of smoked old fashioned, the prices have declined quite a bit in the past year. It should be a welcome relief considering the price of everything has generally risen.
We suggest looking for a kit that includes a variety of different wood chips and a butane torch if you don’t have one already. Here is a link to one of the least expensive I could find on Amazon.
Our Maple Pecan Smoked Old Fashioned is a perfect fall cocktail to enjoy when the weather starts to cool. Give it a try and let us know what you think!
Happy Exploring!
