Applesauce. It is a food that I associate with babies and BBQ. It is easy for toothless children to eat, or it is one of the sides available at the local BBQ joint. However, whenever I have some, I always forget how good it actually is. So when this week’s cocktail tasted just like Alie’s Mom’s homemade applesauce, we knew we had to call this cocktail Mom’s Applesauce.
Mom’s Applesauce is another quick and easy cocktail to make when you’re on the go this holiday season. The bit of apple and spice is the perfect combo as we transition from fall into winter. You can either serve it to your guests or make yourself one to help you unwind during the busiest season of the year.
Apple cider is the primary base in Mom’s Applesauce. We preferred the spiced apple cider versus the plain. If you aren’t a fan of the spiced apple cider, we still recommend adding a bit of nutmeg or cinnamon on top to give it a saucy taste.
We used our go-to daily drinking whiskey, Evan William Bottled-in-Bond to mix in this cocktail. The vanilla and oak flavors gave Mom’s Applesauce a rich flavor. If you haven’t read our review of Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond, you can find it here.
All you need besides apple cider and whiskey is a bit of lemon juice and maple syrup. Combine all the ingredients together and serve with an apple wedge for garnish.
Give it a try and let us know what you think.
