Watermelon Whiskey Spritzer

Occasionally, I’ll have an idea for a cocktail that comes together perfectly. I’ll think about the ingredients I want to add, consider the portions of each item, and brainstorm the perfect garnish to complement the flavor and aesthetic. I’ll mix it together to find that it came out perfect. That’s what happened with this Watermelon Whiskey Spritzer.

I’d been dreaming of a delicious whiskey cocktail with watermelon for months, but despite our global food supply chain, we rarely see watermelon in the store until summer hits. Even if we see watermelon in the spring, we’ll wait it out until summer when they are usually sweeter, not to mention less expensive. However, as soon as we picked up our first watermelon, I couldn’t wait to try it in a cocktail.

Alie always double-checks my work. Whether a post or a cocktail creation, I always get her opinion since we have such different preferences. I like my cocktails sweet and she likes them strong. Finding the right balance for each cocktail can sometimes be a process. Luckily, our Watermelon Whiskey Spritzer had all the right balance perfect for a warm summer night.

For the Watermelon Whiskey Spritzer, we combined bourbon, mint liqueur, Agave in the Raw, and sliced watermelon. You’ll need a shaker and a muddle to glean extra juice from the watermelon. For this recipe, we liked it best with Warrior Whiskey for its hints of rye spice that balanced the sweetness. If you haven’t checked our review of Warrior Whiskey, you can find it here.
