Bourbon [Pear]ed Cooler ready for sipping.

The Bourbon Peared Cooler came to life after a harrowing realization: I was acquiring a few too many new bottles of whiskey. While this reality comes with the territory, my growing collection resulted in a small problem… I ran out of space on my bar.

Typically, we buy a few bottles of whiskey, drink them over time, and replenish with new bottles when we run out. There are only a select few bottles we hang onto for the long haul like limited releases or something from an out-of-state distillery, not the run-of-the-mill bourbon we can easily find in any liquor store near us.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a lot of great run-of-the-mill bourbons widely available, but not all bottles are worth saving. There was a saying about cigarettes back in the day. “If you got ’em, smoke ’em.” We like to take that approach with our whiskey.

While trying to make a little room on the bar, I stumbled upon a bottle of pear liqueur leftover from a fall punch recipe. It ended up buried between several bottles of whiskey, just waiting for me to rediscover it and use it in a cocktail concoction. It was the perfect discovery to “pair” with our daily drinker and inspire this Bourbon [Pear]ed Cooler, pun intended.

Bourbon Peared Cooler

The pear liqueur might require a special trip to the liquor store, but the other ingredients are household staples. Honey, lemon juice, rosemary, and soda water/club soda are easy to pick up on your next trip to the grocery store. If you are like us, you ALWAYS have bourbon. The result is a sweet bourbon cocktail great for enjoying on those weekend afternoons. We like this cocktail with our go-to daily drinker Evan Williams B-i-B. Check out our review here.
